CMS Announces Deadline for Supplier Accreditation
The deadline for all existing HME providers to become accredited is September 30, 2009.
Implementation of Competitive Bidding Round 1 Delayed
The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has decided to extend the date for implementation of the first round to July 2008 from its original date of April 1, 2008. There are several efforts by various industry groups to gain congressional support for legislation to mitigate the impact of competitive bidding.
ATP Requirement Eliminated
CMS has also made the decision to eliminate the ATP credential requirement for clinicians providing the specialty evaluation for Group 2 SPO and MPO, all Group 3 and power assist devices. The specialty evaluation requirement for this level of technology will remain, only the credential requirement slated for implementation April 1, 2008 has been eliminated.
Complex Rehab Exemption - H.R. 2231
H.R. 2231 is a bill that proposes to exempt complex rehab and assistive technology from the national competitive bidding program. Trade associations and disability groups such as ALS & MDA have joined us in our efforts to exempt complex rehab technology.
Over 135 people participated in a call with NCART to receive guidance on how to make calls to members of congress. These calls resulted in new co-sponsors for H.R. 2231! As of December 21st, there are 34 co-sponsors. Click here to see current co-sponsor information. If your representative is not on this list, please contact him or her and ask for their support of H.R. 2231.
